FAQs about starting school

When do children start nursery?

Children may attend nursery starting the September following their third birthday.  They attend nursery every day for two and a half hours every morning.

Parents have to apply online at www.flintshire.gov.uk for Nursery and Reception places. See further details in ‘Applying for places’

When do children start school?

Reception is full time statutory education. Children start the September after their 4th birthday.

A school day is from 8.50am  – 3.00pm  for infant children and the school has a before and after school club which provides care from 7.45 in the morning and until 5.30pm

Can I visit the school?

You are welcome to visit the school. Please phone to make an appointment for the headteacher to give you a tour of the school.

What happens when I know my child has a place?

Nursery and Reception parents will be invited to an induction meeting one evening at the beginning of July.

Also during July there will be an open afternoon where nursery parents and pupils can visit our Early Years Unit and meet the staff.

On our move up morning in July Nursery and Reception pupils will spend the morning with their new teacher, in preparation for September.

In September, Reception and Nursery pupils have a phased entrance. During the first week Reception pupils stay until 1pm.

Nursery pupils do not attend school during the first week as members of staff will complete home visits, meeting all nursery parents and pupils at their home. During the second and third week Nursery pupils attend school every other morning.

Further details of these procedures will be shared with parents during the Induction meeting.

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.
